Inviting Awe and Wonder

I’ve been doing a bit of housekeeping on my website, checking everything links and loads properly. This led me to think about some of the topics covered in this month’s Nature Fix. In particular I enjoyed revisiting the notion of Awe as critical to our sense of wellbeing, calming our nervous system and triggering the release of oxytocin, the so called love hormone that promotes trust and bonding.

It was pleasing to see the golden thread linking my thinking one year ago when I recorded the WoodSong Meditation and my recently developed Manifesto for Nature Connection (see previous post), which includes ‘Fall in Love with Nature’ as one of the Six Actions.

The WoodSong meditation was inspired by the words of Dacher Keltners book ‘The Transformative Power of Everyday Wonder’. Awe is also shown to help us keep things in proportion and be little less self-preoccupied and Keltner encourages us to invite regular intentional experiences of awe and wonder into our life - something I hope I help people to do with all the things I create and share in my shop and through Nature Fix.

Other posts in the Nature Fix almanac include encouragement to rest when you need to, searching for winter galls, how to observe the changing light and reduce anxiety through watching birds. That’s enough to keep me going through till after Christmas x
